Indoor activities to keep your pets entertained this winter

Brrrr… Winter is coming, which means the temperature are dropping, the days are becoming wetter, and most likely your furmily will be forced to stay indoors. This time of year can be boring for cats and dogs, especially if they’re used to as daily walks and playing outdoors. Here are some of our recommendations for you and your furry companions to keep cosy, entertained and active during the cold season.

1. Puzzles
Pets love to be challenged, especially when they get some kind of reward at the end. A great way to test your pet’s mind and keep them entertained on a rainy day is through puzzle games. Nine Ottosson Smart Interactive Pet Toys work to fight boredom by keeping your pet busy while also using interactive play to strengthen the bond between you and your pet. Remember to shower them with praise when they complete the task presented to them! The aim of this is to give them a tangible goal so that they feel satisfied once it’s complete.

2. Schedule Playtime
Pets confined indoors due to bad weather can become bored, leading them to get into trouble. Scheduling daily playtime with a variety of different toys can be very helpful in reducing any potential destructive behaviours, such as excessive barking or chewing. For example the FroliCat Bolt Automatic Laser Light is a great toy to provide hours of fun and engagement for you and your cat or dog. Additionally, indoor play is a necessity to keep your fur kids physically active and prevent any potential weight gain during the winter months.

3. Practice your training
You can use the cold, wet days as an opportunity to practice your training skills. If your dog has mastered the basics, such as sit, down, stay, etc., you can chain them together so that your dog has to do more for his reward. Don’t get too crazy at first – start with two or three commands and build up. Pet Heaven offers a wide range of training treats and equipment to help you in this endeavour!

4. Make mealtimes fun
Turn your pet’s mealtime into a game that will help keep them entertained for hours. There are plenty of options to do this, such as using a slow feeder bowl, stuffing a classic Kong with some peanut butter or wet food, or giving your pal a treat dispensing ball to play around with. This can transform your pet’s regular (and let’s be honest, boring) meals into a fun, long-lasting, and mentally stimulating challenge.
