Blanket Drive - Winter 2021

We came together as a community to make an impact and we did just that!

Pet Heaven, The Underdog Project and Dog’s Life partnered up to create a campaign to provide you with the opportunity to give the gift of warmth to the superpups living in our local shelters this winter.

On the 13th of May 2021, we launched our Blanket Drive campaign with a goal of donating 500 blankets to the Underdog project so that they could distribute it among the community. By the time the end of the campaign came around on 6 June 2021, we were blown away by your generosity! Together, you all contributed and allowed us to reach our goal! 500 dogs and cats within our local shelters and communities are going to have the soft feel and warmth of the blankets and it will bring them so much comfort.

The Underdog project is a registered Non-Profit and Public Benefit Organisation and works to connect at-risk youth and shelter dogs with the aim of bringing joy and improving the lives of both these vulnerable groups. They have a programme that is mutually beneficial and works to teach empathy and various life skills to underprivileged children while bringing joy to troubled dogs and assisting them with becoming socialized so that they have a better chance at getting adopted.

It was only fitting that our team, together with the Underdog Project and Dog’s Life, donated over 200 blankets to DARG, Domestic Animal Rescue Group in Hout Bay on Youth Day, 16 June 2021.

Further to this, Nina, the managing director of the Underdog Project, visited SPCA Grassy Park (who is also a part of her programme) to donate more of the blankets:

“A MASSIVE thank you again for the awesome blanket drive. It was a huge success and having seen many donations delivered I could see from the reactions and gratitude, from the shelters that received them, that these blankets are an absolutely awesome donation. One of the women at SPCA got quite teary and the luxury soft feel of the blankies is going to bring lots of comfort to the animals there. Thank you for making this happen.”

As a team, we are smiling from ear to ear, knowing that together we have been able to make even the smallest of impacts. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the generosity of our following and community, so thank you to everyone that donated!
