2) Make sure you are visiting a pet-friendly location

Imagine the inconvenience of arriving at your destination only to find it's not pet-friendly! Make double sure that your accommodation is pet-friendly, and notify them when booking so that they can plan accordingly and ensure your pet is catered for.

3) Microchip your pet

Being in a new, exciting environment may cause your pet to take a a little adventure all on their own. Microchip your pet before you leave, or at the very least ensure that they have a name tag with a contact number on it should they get lost.

4) Keep them entertained,  on the backseat!

To make the drive less of a hassle, distract your doggy with a stuffed Kong or Rogz toy. Ensure that your dog is secure on the backseat with a seat-belt or in a pet carrier. Use a travel blanket or hammock to keep your vehicle clean.

5) Stop for bathroom breaks

Make regular stops to allow your pet to stretch it's legs, drink some water and take a bathroom break.

6) Go for a test-drive

If this is your doggie's first road trip and you are not sure how your dog is going to react in the car, go for a few test drives prior to your trip.  This will allow your pet to familiarize itself with the vehicle and give you an opportunity to gauge how your pet responds on the road.
