Training Your Dog To Sit
This entry was posted on 2016-08-02
.Excuse the pun, but teaching an old dog new tricks can be hard. Training a puppy how to sit can be even more exhausting! Puppies have short attention spans and need some 'motivation' to stay focussed. So here is a quick guide to help you to train your puppy how to sit in just minutes a day.
What you require:
- Some sort of treat
- 5 to 10 minutes per day
- Patience ;)
Here are five (5) simple steps to training your dog to sit:
- Step 1 - Sit down in front of your puppy, this brings you down to his level
- Step 2 - Hold a treat up to his nose, then slowly move it up and let his head follow the treat
- Step 3 - This movement will automatically cause his/her butt to lower
- Step 4 - Always remember to praise the good behaviour and to reward them by giving them the treat
- Step 5 - Ensure you pair the behaviour and motions with the word sit, and repeat multiple times per day
Now that your rockstar puppy knows how to sit, make sure you keep up the training to ensure they associate treats with good behaviour.
Here is a list of treats we recommend using for training your dog:
- Hills Ideal Balance Soft-Baked Naturals with Duck & Pumpkin
- Cuthbert's Peanut Butter Flavoured Rounds
- Sergeant's Barkery Bitty Bones Bacon Flavour
