This Nelson Mandela Day, PetHeaven.co.za decided to take the initiative and use their online influence to make a difference. After all, this is exactly what Mandela Day is for; using what you have at your disposal to make a positive change in society. 

On 18 July 2017, Pet Heaven launched their Nelson Mandela Project to raise funds for various animal welfare organisations across South Africa including The Lucky Lucy Foundation, African Tails and Kitty & Puppy Haven to name just a few! The campaign was simple: Donate R67 on PetHeaven.co.za and Pet Heaven would match each donation with R20.'We believed that although the contribution seemed small, we could create BIG change if we all put our paws together for one cause', says Pet Heaven's Marketing Manager, Steph Teixeira.

'After promoting the campaign in our email newsletter as well as on our social media page, we immediately noticed the enormous generosity of the animal lovers in our country. Donations were streaming in from far and wide. Some customers were single-handedly donating up to R400 towards the project', says Steph. 'We were aiming for 100 donations, but were overwhelmed to have received 329 donations from people all over the country, bringing the total funds raised for the project to R22043. Honouring our promise, PetHeaven.co.za matched each donation, contributing an additional R6580'.

As a company, Pet Heaven would like to express their deepest gratitude to every single person who donated via their online store.
'Because of you, hundreds of dogs and cats will be rescued through the wonderful animal organisations that make it their life's purpose to aid the animals we love so dearly. Let's strive to make a difference not just on Mandela Day, but every day', notes Pet Heaven CEO, Schalk Kearney.

Taking this sentiment to heart, Pet Heaven have made it possible for you to donate on their site to various animal welfare organisations, any time you please. This is just one way that Pet Heaven are raising a paw for change. On 22nd July, they also volunteered at TEARS Animal Rescue and assisted with planting trees and spending quality time with the special furkids.
