Warning signs

Daily Brushing

The gold standard. Use a pet-specific toothbrush and enzymatic toothpaste (never human toothpaste — xylitol is toxic to dogs). Even brushing 3–4 times a week makes a significant difference in plaque control.

Dental Chews & Treats

Dental chews with the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) seal have proven plaque and tartar reduction. Look for chews with an abrasive texture and active enzymes — they work while your pet chews.

Water Additives & Dental Diets

Dental water additives are odourless and tasteless — just add to your pet's bowl daily. Prescription dental diets like Hills t/d and Royal Canin Dental are formulated with a unique kibble structure that mechanically cleans the tooth surface as your pet bites down.
